...Well, I still don't know why there is this big gap and the page no longer fits in the boundaries...I am bummed out! Supposedly Blogger has a new help site, well, I submitted the problem (I am using Blogger's new "TPS" publisher so that may be the problem, and I mentioned this in my submission) but have received no response, not even an acknowledgement of my submission! Oh, well, I hope it's not too distracting!

…and now it is time once again for "The Daily (Almost) Affirmation to The Little Girl", the little girl inside me who for 30 years or more has been my protector….
Well, just another quick affirmation...it's not our fault that the webpage looks odd...and we don't have to feel bad about it, yes, all our lives we have been taught things are either wrong or right..no in between..and we have held those beliefs for a long time..but you know, that's not really true! Our website looks fine and we can be proud of it! And hopefully someday it will look better, but if not, big deal!
It's cool! Good night, sleep tight..this to us both! I love you!
...and this has been the...

I must aplogize for taking so long between posts...see the last post for a brief description of the problems I have had with Dish Network, really, I must say that the fact that the receiver was fried was really a blessing in disguise. I had so much trouble with Dish Network that I decided to go to DirectTv. I went to Circuit City on Thurs 5/30...I was crying the whole time, I was so upset with Dish Network! I had called them earlier that evening to see when I could expect the receiver I ordered from them..well, they couldn't find the order...however they found a credit card charge (not coincidentally, so did my credit card co)...well, I told them to cancel the order, and the charge...but they said they couldn't cancel an order they couldn't find...fine, just cancel the charge, I said...well, they couldn't do that either...I talked to several people, departments and supervisors, no one could help...I got my credit card bill yesterday and already disputed the charge...but they didn't even offer to re-place the order, or to place an order at no charge since I had already been charged. So I decided to go to Circuit City. I bought a dish and 3 receivers and was given a # to call the next day to set-up a time for installation. I went home and cried. Well, I set-up installation for today. I worried and fretted all week about it, I so wanted to get rid of Dish Network, it was a matter of principle now, but what if the guy couldn't install the DirectTV correctly? I even called the cable company in between talking to Dish Network departments, I asked about Digital Cable, the woman was very honest and told me that it really wasn't any better, just had an on-screen guide and some other features. Well, so it HAD to work. I told Susan (my therapist) about it, she thought I was really worried about something else...well, I may have been but I WAS worried about this, very worried, I live in a townhouse condo, and there is limited space to work with...I wanted 3 rooms, 3 receivers...but the guy who installed the Dish Network said he couldn't do it...well I figured there must be someone who could. Well, I was pleased this morning to receive the news that Tim, the owner of the satellite company, was coming out himself to my home. I was told he was the best, he would do right by me, etc etc. Well, he did, for the most part. He managed to get the receivers all inside the house (one of the Dish Network receivers had been in the garage, that's why it got fried when water got on it, anyway...) and hook everything (all my multitude of TVs, VCRs, and DVD players) back up, almost to my satisfaction, He made it so I had to have my VCR on at all times for the satellite pic and sound to come in. Whatever! I wasn't gonna do THAT! But I let him do it,. then fixed it back after he left. I am very pleased with the 3 receivers...it used to be that I had to have the same station on downstairs and in the computer room...fudge that! It was very inconvenient! Now it is sweet...I still can't tape one program while watching another, but with 3 TVs hooked up to the satellite I have many more options, plus I have the little TV/VCR combo in my bedroom, I can tape local stations off of it. And the downstairs picture always looked HORRIBLE with cable and Dish Network, well, Tim replaced the cable with brand new cable and MAN what a difference!
It looks GREAT! Tim said in Sep they are putting out DirectTV compatible TiVoS, so you can TiVo a show while watching another. I told him I would probably be calling him in September! He can add the cable right on to the 4th spot on the Dish...how sweet! He got the receiver inside by drilling a hole in the back of the downstairs coat closet, which backs up onto the garage, then threaded the cable through the wall, along the closet wall, over the divider between the living room carpet and kitchen linoleum and along the wall to the TV...ingenious! I was so excited that he figured that out! I KNEW there was a way to get that stupid receiver in the house! YAY!
And I will be paying $22 less a month than I did with Dish Network, which is GREAT! And there is even an option to make the menus appear in "eggplant" which is a pretty purple color...much nicer than the drab menus of Dish Network! KEWL! I am VERY pleased!
Caveat Emptor all you Dish Network customers/contemplators...although I have read that EchoStar, Dish Network's parent company is buying out DirectTV, well, whatever, I am still glad. There were MANY moments along the line where it soooo looked like this would not work, Tim kept saying stuff like "Phew..I don't know...how will this work?" "Gee, I don't know...Phew...gosh, Wheewww!"
I was so nervous, I was clutching a piece of wire and I thought any minute I would split it in two! But thank G-d it worked, well, I had to talk to tech support because only one of the three receivers would receive any programming at all, the guy said, "Well, if you connect each receiver to a phone line, within a month, everything should be ok..." Well, I said, I would kind of like to watch TV now! So then he magically made it work. What a relief...but I wasn't ready to exhale yet, so to speak. I called Dish Network to cancel, and had to tell "Sherri" my life story. Then she said, before transferring me to someone else to whom I had to tell said story, "Well, Miss Cohen, if you would ever like to come back to Dish Network,..." Well, I thought, she will say next, "We'll give you a free month of programming as a welcome back gift..." Or at the very least, "We would be glad to have you back!" BUUUTTT NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
She said, "You may be subject to a $25 restart fee." What a crock! I can't believe it! They should be offering ME money to come back..unreal! I laughed out loud! Then I talked to Brent, "account specialist" who could offiically cancel my account. I had to tell him my life story, as I said, then he told me about the fee too, and I told him it was a crock, and laughed out loud when he said it, too. He said that often the fee is waived, unless the person was cancelled for lack of payment..whatever! I still think that is a crock! Then I called back to make sure I was officially cancelled, then I EXHALED and relaxed YAYYYYYYYY!
Long story short (WWAAAAY too late), I didn't have satellite TV in the computer room so I have been spending most of my time in the bedroom, where my second Dish Network receiver was still working, for that TV only, so I spent hardly any time in the computer room. So I didn't post to the blog. Hmm...maybe a few hundred more words are needed to explain...HA HA!!!

On a much lighter note I won $1000 in the Jewish Community Center Early Childhood Education raffle.,I bought one $10 ticket and I won! I just bought the ticket because my niece and nephew attended kindergarten/day care there...I didn't even know when the drawing was! Actually the prize was a 36" flat screen TV or $1000. My sister called me at work Fri 5/31 and said, "Helen (my niece) has big news...here she is!" I expected her to tell me my nephew pooped in the "poppy" as he calls the potty..or some other earth-shattering news....but she said, "You won a TV..." I said, "HUH?" She said, "You won a TV...can we borrow it?" I said "Put your mother on!" I asked my sister...what the heck? She said they had just come from the "end of school party" where they had the drawing for the prize and I won! I didn't believe it at first, but she told me she was going to let the guy know if I wanted the TV or the money, and by the way could they have the TV? Or I could take the 36" and they could have the 32" TV I have now? NO! I want the money! Helen was bummed that I got to choose, oh, well, they'll get over it. I told everyone at work, everyone was excited for me, one of the supervisors told me that she thought I was a kind and generous person and she couldn't think of anyone more deserving...isn't that nice? My parents brought me the check sunday night when I met them for dinner...I was telling everyone at work
that the check was really shady-looking, no name or address up top, just the bank name and acct and routing #s...but the bank took it, I checked the next day on the internet. Very exciting, and timely, since I had to buy those receivers and the dish!

So I thought I would write the heating/AC guy and ask him if he would pay for the 2 receivers I had to buy to replace the one that was out in the garage...he's getting off cheap, they were less expensive than the 1 receiver. I think he'll go for it! At least I hope so!

What else? Well, I took back the "wrong" receiver to Sam's Club...I had to wait 10 days since I wrote a check , even though
I checked on the internet and it cleared 2 days later! I got my money back, very sweet!

Friday 5/31 I went out with Maureen and April, 2 RPhs from work, and April's man. We met at Maureen's stylish downtown loft then walked to the Rathskeller, a local club. We hung out, drank, talked, laughed, a few of Maureen's friends came to join us, I had a very nice time. Went home at about 2 am, asleep by 3, man, did I have fun! I hope we can go out more, these are fun people! We were walking back to our cars (we being me, April and her man) and April's man was holding her hand and had his arm around me (he is quite a gentleman, bought me a drink and everything...what a guy! I'm jealous!), well, a car was driving by and a woman rolled down the car window and yelled out, "Mad props to you , yo! You're pimpin!" And April and I both said, almost in unison, "That's RIGHT!" We all laughed...too funny! What a good time!

We have a couple of new pharmacists at work, Dennis is going to be on nights and he is training on days now...I worked with him Friday, he is coming along, it's a bit slow, but this job is not easy and there is a LOT to remember, especially with our computer system, it has a lot of quirks! Doreen starts Monday and will be training on days then work all evenings, that is good, it will free up day shift people, we have been short most days what with people being on vacation and all. I am training her a few days, that will be fun to have some new people around!

So I need to plug in these receivers to phone lines..I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone on if the receivers actually have to be connected at all times, or just when I want to order pay-per-view, which I almost NEVER do, but just in case...it's no problem downstairs, upstairs is a challenge. I have an outlet right by the TV set-up in the computer room, but it has a splitter already, and my DSL modem and a phone plugged in to it! I wonder if they make triple splitters...I will have to check the internet. In the bedroom, I always used the phone jack in the bathroom (the guy I bought the condo from installed phone lines for a living, so there are LOTS of phone lines in the house) when I ordered pay per view (once or twice, I think, in 18 months, once with a free coupon, once for Drew Carey's all-star Improv), so if I need to connect it all the time I guess I need a splitter for the phone line behind the bed, plus DSL filters...AAAAAAUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Oh, well, it all worked out and that's the important thing.

MAN am I tired! I went to bed early last night, not knowing when the installer would call/arrive. They called about 8:40, and gave me a time of between 11 am and 2 pm. Tim got there at about 12:30 pm and left about 4:10 or so. I didn't get a nap and I had a LOOONG week of worry and work. BUSY BUSY BUSY...I went to lunch at 2 pm Wed, and 2:30 pm Thurs...YUK! Oh, well, such is life. I know I will sleep well tonight, such a burden has been lifted!

Well, not much else to report..it was my parents' 38th wedding anniversary Friday (6/7) and I sent them a card, of course..it said, "This card will make you feel younger than you have been in years!" Inside it folded out and there was a drawing that looked as if a child had drawn it, it was very cute and my parents loved it. My sister and brother must have forgotten, no cards from them. Oh, well, I remembered!

…and now it is time once again for "The Daily (Almost) Affirmation to The Little Girl", the little girl inside me who for 30 years or more has been my protector….
You and the other "younger parts" of me got really mad at Susan this week! She was trying to get me to my "adult state" and I was having a tough time...she wouldn't help me! You wanted to know why Susan wouldn't help me when I was suffering so. Well, she would if she thought it would help, but really, I have to learn to do it myself. I have to learn to make myself strong when I feel I am losing contact with my "adult," Susan can't be with me 24/7, but she is there for us when we truly need her. I appreciate your help, I really do, I know I can depend on you when I truly need you, too, but I have to handle things myself most of the time, and you can relax. When I need you, REALLY need you, trust me, I will call on you! Until then, just relax, like I said, be the kid you always were supposed to be. She's a pretty terrific liitle kid! And she is...you are..good enough! You always were and you still are! Good night, sleep tight, this to us both! I love you!
..and this has been the…
